The ASGA periodically presents its National Award acknowledging lifetime contributions to amateur golf. Past honorees have included Joseph C. Dey, Jr., Jack W. Nicklaus, William C. Campbell, Arnold Palmer, and Robert Jay Sigel. This year the ASGA was proud to present the award to Ken Venturi during the annual Stroke Play Championship to held at The Boulders in Carefree, AZ, November 30-December 3, 2008. The award is given in recognition not only for the outstanding amateur record of Mr. Venturi, but also for his long-standing efforts to promote youth and amateur golf. To this end the ASGA Charitable Trust has also will bestowed a gift to one of Mr. Venturi's favorite youth charities. The presentation took place during a reception Sunday evening, November 30th at The Boulders Resort which featured letters from Mr. Campbell and Mr. Palmer as well as video tributes from Mr. Nicklaus and Jim Nantz of CBS Sports. The highlight of the evening was a wonderful talk by Mr. Venturi that ASGA members in attendance will recall fondly for years to come.
