2011 Stroke Play Championship
Naples Grande Resort - Naples, Florida
December 4-7, 2011

ASGA Members in attendance were welcomed to Naples Grande with sunshine and warm temperatures all week providing a welcomed respite from the cold weather gripping much of the country. Recent renovations at the Rees Jones-designed golf course provided new challenges with firm and fast greens which made for difficult scoring, however putts rolled very true and Naples Grande was once again a great test of golf.
We welcomed two new members to Naples Grande, Art and Judi Kelly of Chicago, IL as well as Dale Peck of Vienna, VA, all of whom are not only wonderful additions to ASGA but were winners in Naples!
Among our great dinner and evening receptions, some terrific golf was played. The men were led in the Championship Division by Ned Longson while new member Dale Peck took top honors for the Age 65+ category. In the Gross/Net Division, congratulations go to Ken Kinsey and Mike Irish who turned in the top Gross and Net performances respectively, as well as Bruce Milligan who won the Super Senior category. Congratulations also to new member Art Kelly who edged out Dick Harrington in the Stableford Flight as well as top Super Senior Bill Lichtenberger.
Arlene McKitrick once again led the Ladies Championship Division with the top Gross score, Carol Milligan posted the best Net total and new member Judi Kelly captured the Ladies Stableford Division.
Many thanks to those who participated and helped to make this a very memorable week for all in attendance!
2010 Stroke Play Championship
Innisbrook Golf Resort - Innisbrook, Florida
December 5-8, 2010

Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida welcomed ASGA Members to the 2010 Stroke Play Championship December 5-8, 2010. Players took on the wonderful Copperhead and Island Courses and while temperatures dipped unseasonably for Florida, members were not deterred from the challenge….and what a challenge it turned out to be! Gusty winds made scoring conditions even more difficult and even well played rounds resulted in high than normal scores on average. There is, however, something special about tough conditions that unties golfers in solidarity and this was certainly the case last week. Many a laugh was shared at the receptions and dinners comparing notes and despite the windy challenges of the first two days, the gusts laid down and the temperatures warmed for a wonderful final round. As is always the case with ASGA events, the hospitality and camaraderie was the story of the week and we welcomed three terrific new couples; Kevin and Ellen Monahan of Old Greenwich, CT; John and Liz Turner of Powell, OH; Alan and Marjorie Westendorf of New Canaan, CT to their first event with ASGA and hope that we see them at many more to come.
Congratulations to Larry Den of Rockville, MD who played steady golf throughout to capture his first overall Stroke Play Championship title. George Carpenter took home the honors for top Gross Score in the Age 65+ Championship bracket, while ASGA President Mal Makin topped the Gross side of the First Flight and Bob Rockey took low Net Honors. Bill Lichtenberger racked up the most stableford points to win his division, and congratulations also go to Joe Germano in the First Flight and Eldon Nuss in the Stableford Flight as the top Super Seniors in their respective divisions.
The Ladies were once again led by great play from Arlene McKitrick whose first round score was the lowest of the entire event! Congratulations also go to Ede Rice for the best Net Score among the Ladies Championship Division and Betty Edwards who won the Stableford Flight.
Many thanks to those who participated and helped to make this a very memorable week for all in attendance.
