2013 National Two Man Team Championship
Grove Park Inn - Asheville, North Carolina
July 21-24, 2013

The historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina was a perfect destination for the 2013 ASGA National Two Man Team Championship! Cooler temperatures in the North Carolina mountains provided a much-needed respite from the extreme heat felt across most of the Country and made for enjoyable days of golf and comfortable evening receptions on the Vanderbilt Patio. We were also thrilled to have renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio in attendance for our opening dinner where he was presented with the ASGA National Award for service to Amateur Golf and spoke to the large crowd in attendance about his incredible career and thoughts about the future of the game.

The golf event opened on the private Country Club of Asheville and moved over to the Grove Park Country Club for Tuesday and Wednesday, both outstanding Donald Ross designs. While Monday and Wednesday were better ball of pairs format, the men played a round of Chapman format Tuesday which is always an interesting experience!

As is always the case with ASGA events, the hospitality and camaraderie were featured throughout and the more than 50 Members plus wives were thrilled to welcome seven terrific new Members join us!!! – Terry and Sue Averdick of Palm Coast, FL; Don Crane of Cambridge, MA; James and Pam Dodd of Myrtle Beach, SC; Dick and Lynne Gruber of Hagerstown, MD; Bob and Adrina Kletjian of Jupiter, FL; Hank and Laurie Sammons of Huntington, WV; Bob and Susan Stone of Marco Island, FL – to their first event with ASGA and hope that we see them at many more to come.

Some great play also highlighted the week, and congratulations on the Gross side go to Jim Field and Bill Cline who played flawlessly all week. Closing with 69 for their third round under par, Jim and Bill posted a three day total of 9-under par to top Roger Kollat and Bob Stone by eight strokes….no easy feat in that Roger and Bob posted a final round 64! Congratulations also go to Andy Cerone and new Member Don Crane who had two rounds of 60 during the week to take home the top Net honor. The ladies were led on the Gross side by Arlene McKitrick who played her usual outstanding game carding rounds of 78-77. Barb DiMaio took home the trophy for best Net score and the Stableford division was won with a terrific final round comeback by Rekha Lawande.
